THIS YEAR WE'LL IMPROVE THE LIVES OF
SA KIDS.
AND THAT'S ONLY THE BEGINNING.
CHARACTER FOR LIFE improves the lives of the adults who teach it - and
the communities that embrace it.
It gives kids a framework for ethical living. Simply put, we help kids
to make better choices to make everyone's life better.
CHARACTER FOR LIFE is
two things: an educational and inspiring framework for teaching universal
values and a
national coalition of organizations that support each other.
The result is a culture change in your school or youth-service program.
CHARACTER FOR LIFE is
nonprofit, nonpartisan, and nonsectarian. It transcends cultural differences.
It isn't a
curriculum, an add-on, an out-of-the-box program, or a quick-fix fad.
It's character education that works with your needs and pre-existing
programs.
Administrator's, principals and teachers across the nation have found
that Character for Life significantly improves the
way kids interact with adults. Research on values education shows dramatically
reduced behaviour problems, reduced
absence, and increased test scores. In brief kids learn a consistent
set of universal values and teachers model those
values, behavior improves and educational focus soars.
When you bring Character for Life into your classroom or program, you
use the Six Pillars of Character in your existing
curriculum and classroom management to make focusing on good character
part of everything you do. Kids focus on
the rewards of character instead of punishments.
Where does Character
Transformation come from?
Where does Character
Transformation come from? In 1992, the Josephson Institute for Etiquette
in Colorado, USA,
founded the organization, 'Character Counts'. The organization then
launched a program called 'The Six Pillars of
Character'. Due to the universal nature of the program, it started enjoying
international attention, and so the South African
version, Character Transformation, was born. The concept of 'Six Pillars
of Character' was kept, but the program was
adjusted to fit within a South African and now also Christian context.
THE SIX PILARS OF
CHARACTER:
Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness,
Caring and Good Citizenship. Each value is colour-coded for the
purpose of association and to make the implementation thereof fun. Each
value is implemented in a unique manner and
according to the groups needs and circumstances.
TRAINING:
The training is the
most important and yet the most enjoyable part of the program. It entails
the facilitation of information
and not just the mere sharing of it. Group efforts and various media
also form a part of it. At the end of the program,
there will be a discussion with regards to the implementation of the
course, during which a team will be assembled to
manage and oversee the process and progress. The needs of the congregation
or family will be identified, evaluated and
maintained to ensure positive results. The whole program and costs involved
include the workshop, its material, and an
official launch.
DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME:
The initial workshop is 8 hours long, after which the implementing continues
for more or less a month, depending on the
needs of the congregation or family. Follow-up sessions will also be
arranged with management.
SUPPORT:
Character Transformation assists the church and all the families as
needed. In due time, there will also be an interactive
website where individuals can exchange ideas as well as all the small
miracles which they have experienced.
CHILDREN ARE OUR MISSION. BECAUSE THE FUTURE IS SOONER THAN YOU THINK.
